Marriage Registration Procedure

Registration records a marriage that has already been solemnised. The procedure depends on the law that applies and the state.

Steps

  1. Identify the law. Hindu Marriage Act or Special Marriage Act section 15, or other personal law.
  2. Identify the authority. Delhi SDM, UP registration system, or Haryana Marriage Registrar.
  3. Apply. Online application with documents.
  4. Appear. Spouses and witnesses with originals.
  5. Certificate.

Registration vs court marriage

Registration has no 30-day notice under the Hindu Marriage Act route. Registration under section 15 of the Special Marriage Act does involve a notice and waiting period. See court marriage vs registration.
