Documents Required for Court Marriage in Delhi

Most delays come from documents. Use this checklist, then have it checked against your specific case.

For both parties

  • ✓ Age proof: birth certificate, Class 10 certificate or passport
  • ✓ Identity proof: Aadhaar, passport, voter ID or driving licence
  • ✓ Address proof
  • ✓ Recent passport-size photographs
  • ✓ Affidavits on date of birth, marital status and nationality as required

Residence proof for the notice district

At least one of you must show 30 days' residence in the district. A rent agreement with utility bills, or an ID showing that address, is commonly used. Ask for current requirements if your Aadhaar shows another state.

If previously married

  • Divorced: certified copy of the final divorce decree (check that the appeal period has passed or no appeal is pending)
  • Widowed: death certificate of the former spouse

For witnesses

Three witnesses with original identity and address proof and photographs. See witness requirements.

For a foreign national or NRI

Passport, visa or OCI card, and any certificate of no impediment, single status document or embassy declaration the authority requires, with apostille or attestation where applicable. See foreign national marriage.
