Court Marriage & Family Law Assistance in Old Delhi

Legal help for residents of Old Delhi with court marriage, marriage registration and matrimonial matters.

Legal assistance for couples and families in Old Delhi

Old Delhi is a new revenue district created from the Chandni Chowk and Sadar Bazar sub-divisions. Many families here live in old, jointly owned or inherited houses, so address proof is often in a grandparent's or relative's name. That is usually workable, but it needs a supporting affidavit or other proof of actual residence for the 30-day condition.

We help with court marriage under the Special Marriage Act, registration of marriages already performed, certificate corrections, and family matters such as divorce, maintenance and custody. We do not claim a physical office in every area; consultations are available by phone, WhatsApp or by appointment.

Which authority handles your matter?

Court marriage and registration are handled by the SDM acting as Marriage Officer or Registrar for your sub-division, not by a court. Divorce, maintenance and custody for Old Delhi are generally heard at the Tis Hazari Courts, subject to the jurisdiction rules for each case.

Chandni Chowk and Sadar Bazar sub-divisions were earlier part of Central district. They form the new Old Delhi district from January 2026. Delhi's revenue districts were reorganised from 11 to 13 by a Revenue Department notification of 25 December 2025. The new districts are Central, Central North, East, New Delhi, North, North East, North West, Old Delhi, Outer North, South, South East, South West and West; Shahdara is no longer a separate revenue district. SDM (sub-division) boundaries moved with this change, so the Marriage Officer or registering authority for your address may differ from what older websites say. Always confirm your current sub-division on the Delhi Revenue Department website before applying. A further notification of 3 September 2026 aligned registration jurisdiction with these boundaries, with a Sub-Registrar office for each of the 39 sub-divisions.

Sub-divisions (SDM offices) in Old Delhi

Old Delhi has 2 sub-divisions: Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar. The SDM of each sub-division acts as Marriage Officer for residents of that sub-division. See the full list of Delhi SDM offices.

Police stations in the walled city fall under different judicial districts, so some matters are heard at Tis Hazari and others at Rohini. We confirm the court from the police station and address.
