Family & Matrimonial Lawyer — Rouse Avenue Courts

Legal assistance for matrimonial and family matters at Rouse Avenue Courts.

About Rouse Avenue Courts

Rouse Avenue is one of the newer court complexes. It is best known for designated special courts (for example CBI cases and cases involving MPs and MLAs). It is not usually the forum for ordinary divorce, maintenance or custody cases, so please confirm the correct court for your matter before filing. Location: Rouse Avenue, near ITO.

Judicial districts are organised separately from the revenue districts that were reorganised in December 2025. Which court hears your case depends on the law and the facts, such as where the marriage took place and where the parties live. We check jurisdiction before filing.

Family and matrimonial matters

Rouse Avenue is mainly associated with designated special courts. Ordinary matrimonial cases are generally filed in the family court with jurisdiction, which is usually in another complex. If you have received papers from Rouse Avenue, or you are unsure, send them to us and we will check the correct forum.

Court marriage is not done in this court

A “court marriage” under the Special Marriage Act is solemnised before the Marriage Officer (the SDM in Delhi), not before a judge. Advocates practising here can still help you with it. See court marriage.

Can I get a court marriage at Rouse Avenue Courts?
No. Court marriage is solemnised by the SDM acting as Marriage Officer. It is not a court proceeding.

It depends on jurisdiction: generally where the marriage was solemnised, where the respondent resides, where the parties last lived together, or in some cases where the wife resides. We confirm the right court.
