Court Marriage Certificate

After solemnisation, the Marriage Officer enters a certificate in the Marriage Certificate Book, signed by both parties and three witnesses.

Legal value

Under section 13 of the Special Marriage Act the certificate is conclusive evidence that the marriage was solemnised and that the formalities were complied with.

Copies and corrections

Certified copies can be obtained from the issuing office. Errors can be corrected on application with supporting proof. See certificate correction.

Using the certificate abroad

Many countries require an apostille from the Ministry of External Affairs. We advise on the steps.
